The purpose of this event tonight is to show the larger community of Carlsbad that there are a number of us who…stand quietly for peace, justice, love, and compassion. Tonight, we will look at how we can be resilient in the face of attacks, and how we can try to change the tone of some of the angry dialogue occurring in our nation lately. We will have a couple of short speeches, some prayers, some moments of silence, and some wonderful singing. We will set an intention of a better Carlsbad and nation.
We are here to help each other remain optimistic. As Howard Zinn said: “To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, and kindness.”
