Chris Matthews owes President Obama an apology for referring to the President as “Barry.” Calling the President out of name is disrespectful. If President Obama wanted to be called Barry, certainly he would have used that name when running for office, as it would be much less troublesome than Barack. The President prefers to be called Barack and Matthews should honor that. Would Matthews respond well to people coming on his show and calling him “Chrissy?” Certainly not. People do not refer to President Bush as “Georgie.” Indeed, the latter President Bush often gave people nicknames as a way to demean them. Matthews’ attempt at a catchy phrase is insulting and appears racist. He owes the President and his viewers an apology.
